Description

This platinum cure liquid silicone compound is used for creating skin effects, movie special effects, production molds, medical prosthetics, and cushioning applications. It is suitable for industrial applications with a service temperature range of -54°C to 232°C (-65°F to 450°F).

Features

  • Soft, super-strong, and stretchy material for skin and creature effects.
  • Infinite color effects with Silc Pig™ pigments or Cast Magic™ powders.
  • Easy to use with a mix ratio of 1A:1B by weight or volume.
  • Can be thinned with Silicone Thinner™ or thickened with THI-VEX™.
  • Cures at room temperature with negligible shrinkage.
  • Vacuum degassing recommended to minimize air bubbles.

Instructions

Safety

Use in a well-ventilated area. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves. Avoid latex gloves as they inhibit curing. Store and use at room temperature (23°C/73°F). Warmer temperatures reduce working and cure time and shelf life.

Cure Inhibition

Contaminants like latex, tin-cure silicone, sulfur clays, and certain woods can inhibit curing. Test compatibility on a small area. Apply clear acrylic lacquer to prevent inhibition. Ensure sealer dries thoroughly before applying silicone.

Because no two applications are quite the same, a small test application to determine suitability for your project is recommended if performance of this material is in question.

Note: Even with a sealer, platinum silicones will not work with modeling clays containing heavy amounts of sulfur. Do a small scale test for compatibility before using on your project.

Applying A Release Agent

A release agent can ease demolding. Use Ease Release™ 200 for silicone molds. Lightly brush and mist the release agent, allowing it to dry for 30 minutes.

Measuring and Mixing

Pre-mix Part B thoroughly. Mix Parts A and B (1A:1B by volume or weight) for 3 minutes, scraping sides and bottom. Vacuum degassing is recommended to remove air. Vacuum until material rises, breaks, and falls, then continue for 1 minute.

Curing / Post Curing

Cure at room temperature (23°C/73°F) before demolding. Avoid curing below 18°C (65°F). Optional post-curing at 80°C (176°F) for 2 hours and 100°C (212°F) for 1 hour enhances properties. Cool to room temperature before use.

If Using As A Mold

Silicone molds naturally release casts initially. For polyurethane, polyester, and epoxy resins, use a release agent to prevent mold degradation.

Thickening and Thinning

THI-VEX™ thickens silicone for vertical applications. Silicone Thinner™ reduces viscosity for easier pouring but may reduce tear and tensile strength. Do not exceed 10% by weight.

Mold Performance & Storage

Mold life depends on use. Clean with soap solution and dry before storage. Assemble multi-part molds and store on a level surface in a cool, dry place.
